I’ve been playing video games ever since I could play them. Aside from my love of books, tv and movies, music, and art, I’m super excited to talk about video games on my website Feisty Little Woman: everything from playing them to character studies to what’s new in the industry. In the process, I hope to connect with other gamers and maybe even play a game or two with you!
When I used to live in Quebec and around when I was six or seven years old, the very first games I played were mini games on the TV that our provider made available. You’d have to use your remote and the objects were often pixelated.
My favourite gaming memories were actually with my little brother. In the 90s, we got our first gaming console: a Super Nintendo. This was the exact model we had:
Sometimes, our father would even play with us. Nowadays, controllers have so many buttons that my father just feels too overwhelmed to play anymore.
The major games and favourites I remember playing with my brother were: Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby’s Dream Land 3, The Legend of Zelda, Disney’s Aladdin, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We had hours of fun and it was great to team up together. When games were single player, I still had fun watching my brother play. It was like the early version of Let’s Plays on YouTube.
The gaming world slowly evolved and we did too, getting the latest gaming consoles: N64, GameCube, Wii, GameBoy, Nintendo DS, PS3. My taste in games changed too. When I was younger, I enjoyed fighting games. It was simple and to the point. You’d have to pass different levels to get to a boss. As I have gotten older, I still like the occasional fighting game, however I’m in love with storytelling games. Give me a compelling story, believable characters, and fun gameplay! My favourite games have been from the Assassin’s Creed series and many of the TellTale Games such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Game of Thrones.
A few years ago, I moved to attend publishing school and gaming was nearly non-existent. It wasn’t something I completely missed. I had my books and made new friends. Once I finally had a PC of my own, instead of just a laptop, it was much easier to game.
It was only until recently, back in August 2014, when I started to get back into gaming. I still try to play on consoles, but PC gaming is a little more convenient for me right now. I’m super glad I started gaming again too. My brother introduced me to Steam and I’ve collected a few of my favourite games, meanwhile trying a few new ones. I became obsessed with Left 4 Dead 2, even meeting quite a few online gamers that I’m proud to call friends.
Alongside articles about gaming and new games, I plan to post Let’s Plays from my YouTube channel and gameplay with friends (which will be posted very soon!). I’m also very interested in perhaps trying Twitch out and sharing my personal journey starting a channel.
Looking forward to hearing from fellow gamers and maybe even gaming with you.
